A stuffy nose occurs on one side for several reasons, such as:

1. Nasal cycle

The body goes through a natural process that happens to everyone, called the nasal cycle, and in this process a blockage occurs in one of the nostrils, while the other nostril is not blocked, and we usually do not notice the blockage between the two nostrils, except when the nasal passages are clogged and swollen as a result of allergies or colds The role of the nasal passages is to purify and humidify the air we breathe.

Sleeping on the side is one of the factors that cause a stuffy nose on one side, which is the opposite side, and this can be avoided by changing the sleeping position, or raising the head and supporting it with more pillows when sleeping.

The cause of recurrent nasal obstruction on one side may be a sign of a deviated nasal septum, which occurs when the septum separating the two nostrils is twisted or deviated, which results in a change in the size of the nostrils, and leads to difficulty breathing from the small opening and its blockage continuously.

Nasal polyps or polyps (benign nasal tumors) grow inside the lining of the nose, which is a rare condition and is usually accompanied by other symptoms, such as loss of the senses of smell and taste, and sometimes but not always caused by allergies, and a specialist should be consulted to treat it.
